Over the past few months we have posted on our Facebook page reasons why people choose to remove a tattoo. While this list is by no means exhaustive, it does represent the most common reasons we hear from our patients as to why they want their tattoo removed. What’s your reason?
10. A bad tattoo. A poorly executed tat by an amateur tattoo artist, or a misspelled tattoo, is a common reason to have a tattoo removed.
9. The tattoo is faded. Once a bright and sharp tattoo, now looks faded and blurry. Does this sound familiar? What’s your reason?
8. You’ve broken up. To have the name of your sweetheart tattooed on your bicept is a sign of crazy love. But when the relationship is over, many people want to remove the reminder of their ex. Does this sound familiar?
7. What you thought was cool then, isn’t now. The tattoo you got when you were really into that heavy metal band doesn’t seem so cool now. Your taste in music, fashion or ideas isn’t what it was when you were 18, and that’s ok. It’s ok to move on!
6. You’re joining the military. Not all tattoos are acceptable in the military. Read more about what is and isn’t acceptable here.
5. You want to change careers. In some professions, having a visible tattoo is unacceptable or deemed unprofessional. Has this happened to you?
4. You are a parent now. Having children can really change the way we see the world and many people feel a strong compulsion to remove their tattoos once they have children.
3. You want a different tattoo. If you’ve got a tattoo in the way of a spot where you’d like a different tat, then why not get rid of the original? Laser tattoo removal doesn’t stop you from re-tattooing that area. You just need to wait a while before you do it. This is a very common reason amongst tattoo fans for seeking out laser tattoo removal.
2. Your spouse or partner doesn’t like it. You should, of course, be true to yourself, but if your spouse or partner hates the tattoo and you feel indifferent about it, this might just be reason enough to have it removed.
1. You just don’t want it anymore. For a lot of people, falling out of love with their tattoo isn’t definable. It’s not that they hate the image or the idea of tattoos…they just feel that they don’t want it anymore. This is as good a reason as any to seek out tattoo removal.
No matter what your reasoning to have your tattoo removed, the good news is that nobody has to feel like they need to “just live with it” any more. The permanency of tattoos is no longer something which has to be accepted – they can be dealt with.
